ROMITO TOSCANA IGT

Romito IGT Toscana Rosso 2019 is a bold and avantgarde Super Tuscan from the Maremma Region of Tuscany. The soil is from the Pliocene period and is a mix of red clay and gravel. By day, the temperate maritime climate is influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. By night, it is cooled by the continental climate descending into the area from Monte Amiata. This combination of elements creates the ideal terroir for the cultivation of extraordinary Petit Verdot. Once harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, the grapes are transported to Castello Romtorio’s cellar in Montalcino to be sorted and gently transformed into wine in cement vats, followed by aging in wood.

*From 1987 to 2018 Romito was a blend of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Canaiolo, and Sangiovese. This was the first wine created at Castello Romitorio, born in 1987 with the aim of producing a superb Super Tuscan able to express the excellence of Tuscan wines, even with non-indigenous grape varieties. This wine has been classified under various appellations and made with grapes from different territories, but what remains consistent is the dedication to quality in every expression. Romito, initially labeled as Vino da Tavola, has transitioned through various denominations, becoming a Sant’Antimo DOC and ultimately an IGT Toscana.

Romito is a wine deeply rooted in the powerful territory of Maremma, born from exceptional grapes cultivated between the sea and the volcano.

LABEL

The image reproduced on the label of Castello Romitorio’s Romito is Sandro Chia’s 1987 pencil drawing on paper Romito del Romitorio. ‘Romito’ in Italian means hermit, and ‘Romitorio’ means hermitage, therefore the literal translation of the title is ‘Hermit of the Hermitage’. In the case of this dreamlike pencil sketch, the figure appears to be that of a Roman Centurion, representing the fleetingness of time and nostalgia for a changing world. The castle sketched in the background becomes seemingly eternal and defies time. Such is the character of the Romito IGT Rosso Toscana, a wine that can stand the test of time, unique and solitary
