COLTO ROSSO DI MONTALCINO DOC

Following years of attentive work in our vineyards, Castello Romitorio has released a new Rosso di Montalcino from the 2020 vintage called Colto. An extremely bright, vibrant and expressive wine, sourced from young and powerful vineyards planted deep in the pristine woods in the northwest of Montalcino, Colto is produced in extremely small quantities. Aging in wood and concrete are fundamental processes in the making of this wine. So that Colto can develop a greater structure.

Colto is a glorious expression of Sangiovese from the region’s cooler northwestern climate. Through bottle aging, it further develops complexity, character, and elegance.

Southern Comfort, 1984, is a large oil painting by Sandro Chia that encompasses the grandeur of his epic paintings from the 1980s. Many of these artworks are actually an ode to working-class men, taken from images of films and American pop culture, but also drawing from Italian Spaghetti Westerns and Italian culture’s affinity with, and close relationship to, horses. Even Buffalo Bill brought his Wild West show to Tuscany forging an indelible connection between the American cowboy and Italian Culture. This magnificent artwork captures that bond and resonates the warmth and power of the sunset that often accompanies workers returning home from the vineyards after a long day. The piece also conveys work in all its simplicity, a gesture, a posture, and a connection to the infinite.
